Human Trafficking

Human trafficking involves the recruitment, transportation, harbouring and/ or exercising control, direction, or influence over the movements of a person in order to exploit that person, typically through sexual exploitation or forced labour. It is often described as a modern form of slavery. If you think that you are a victim of human trafficking, or you suspect or know of human trafficking activity, call the police at 9-1-1. The Government of Canada can help you if you are a victim of human trafficking by giving you a special temporary resident permit referred to as an Open Work Permit for Vulnerable Workers, for more information please click here. This will allow you to receive health care and to apply for an open work permit. You will not need to testify against your trafficker or pay a fee to receive this help. You can contact the closest Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) office or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
